"HEY, WE'RE NOT PASTORS OR DEACONS IN THE CHURCH - WHAT DO THE REST OF US DO?"
"We're just regular run-of-the-mill folk... what do we do?"
ONE OF THE IMPORTANT POINTS OF EMPHASIS IS TO DO GOOD WORKS ... not just to other Christians, but to everybody. Not just to do spirutal things, but do things in the name of the Lord. Just do good. The world is looking for people who would be good.
TITUS IS INSTRUCTED TO TEACH HIS CONGREGATION TO DO GOOD WORKS.
chapter 2:
Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled. In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.
then in chapter 3:
Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward everyone... This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.
NOTICE THIS... THE PASTOR TITUS IS BEING TOLD THAT YOU DON'T NEED TO ORDAIN THESE PEOPLE IN YOUR CHURCH. You don't need to force them to do sacrifices or become singers or speakers or missionaries. Teach them to do good in a very bad world.
